Today, the Summer Caye pattern was released for both ladies and girls. This summer my husband and I and one of my sisters and her husband are getting away from it all to Belize. We’ve been planning this jungle & beach vacation for a couple months and the whole time I’ve had this beach friendly pattern on the brain. For part of our vacation we’ll be staying on the island of Ambergis Caye (pronounced ‘KEY’) which is where I got the name for the pattern. Visualizing standing on the beach (wearing a floaty pair of pants) has gotten me through this cold winter and chilly spring. Read on to get fabric recs, coupon codes for fabric (!) and see how to turn modify the pattern for maternity!

Like with most patterns, picking the right fabric is so important. Luckily, you have lots of choices with the Summer Caye pattern. You can use knits and woven’s! Here are the official fabric recommendations:

– Light to medium weight woven’s with flow such as chambray, rayon challis, peach skin, gauze, voile, lawn, 100% rayon, tencel & linen. The cuffed shorts and tulip hem capris/pants should use a stable woven such as chambray or linen.
– Light to medium weight knits with drape such as rayon blends, modal & activewear.

I particularly like linen and linen blends. Katie & Shelly both found their linen blends from Joann’s.

Silk-y type fabrics also look and *feel* amazing! Check our Tami Peterson’s rayon challis pants:

Chambray is also a great choice, especially for the cuffed shorts and tulip hem. Those details need a sturdier fabric so chambray is the perfect choice.

And one more treat…

One of my lovely  testers gave the Summer Caye pattern a go for her pregnant belly. I haven’t specifically included any maternity mods to the pattern but I can tell you what Tara did (and did SO well!).

I went by my high hip measurement (I really should have gone by full hip since this was a chambray with no stretch but that was 3 sizes higher than my SS size and I was nervous!). Lowered the rise 1.5″ at the hip line on the front only and started easing the extra rise on the back in at the side seam (if that makes sense… it was full rise at the center back and slightly less as it got closed to the side seam). That’s it!

Thanks Tara!
