I recently made the Game Day Jersey for my husband, Aaron. He likes shirts that are tighter than looser, and I didnโ€™t want to make something for him that would just sadly sit in the closet, unworn, unloved.

So, I purchased the Kidโ€™s version โ€”- shhhhhhh!!!! He actually gets a lot of his shirts from the kids sections at the thrift store, so itโ€™s not THAT big of a secret! His measurements put him at a 14.

He really preferred the crew neck of the men’s version so, I just bit the bullet and drafted my own pattern piece for the neckline by blending the Menโ€™s Game Day XS crew neck front yoke with the Kidsโ€™ Game Day 14 scoop neck front. Even then, I had to re-draft the piece to make it match up at the shoulders. I lengthened and dropped the back yoke slightly by blending the two sizesโ€™ back yokes as well. I used the same neckband as from the Menโ€™s XS pattern piece. Then I crossed my fingers.

Aaron thinks this shirt is the best because he was able to live through the process. Which I think is one of the best things about making your own clothes- appreciation for the process and the materials. The pattern did take me a while to finish, but that was all due to having to fit my little man and not the instructions. Now that I have the pieces that will fit him, it will be a snap to make it again!

I particularly like the way the yoke is assembled, no burrito method!

I would recommend trying this pattern! Itโ€™s an easy introduction to knits, and should be no problem if you know how to put in a set in sleeve.

The fit was great, and the instructions were easy to follow. I love how smooth the v-neck turned out. Great pattern for using a panel.

The Love Notions Game Day is my favorite LN pattern (so far????) I have made several for my grandsons and myself including the dress version. The directions are fantastic and I love the pattern itself. I have fabric and ideas for a few more but I’m easily distracted????

I had a bit of a problem with the fit of the sleeve for the smaller sizes. LN was awesome and quickly responded with help about adjusting the sleeve. If this pattern is ever updated I think it wouldnโ€™t hurt to reevaluate the sleeves. Iโ€™ve made several so I do like this pattern especially knowing how to adjust the sleeves for a wider more natural fit.

This is a super pattern for using a panel (for a size 7). It allows the whole of the pattern to be featured rather than cutting down into it for the neckline, which is what would happen with a normal Tee.

When my 4 grandkids want the same top, but share many fabrics, this is my go-to pattern.

I made one of these for my grandson. He loves it! There will be more.
