One of the great things about the new Terra Tunic is the variety of fabrics it can be made from. Unlike the popular Laundry Day Tee, the Terra Tunic does not require a certain amount of drape to look flattering. Pull out your double knits and cotton/lyrca– the Terra Tunic is an excellent pattern for those!

Terra Tunic fabric recommendations are medium weight knits with at least 25% stretch such as french terry, ponte, sweater knit, double knits, cotton/lycra, and polyester blends.

I say this so often but it bears repeating: the look of any garment will change depending on the fabric type, this applies to the Terra Tunic as well.

For example, a looser sweater knit will fit and look bigger than when you use something more stable like a cotton/lycra. Let me illustrate with the following images. Both size medium with no adjustments.

terra tunic french terry vs cotton lycra

Drapey french terry in stripe, cotton/lycra in print

terra tunic brushed poly vs. sweater knit

Double brushed poly on the left, medium weight sweater knit on the right.

You can see the cotton/lycra is more fitted by far than the french terry. The brushed poly is also more fitted than the sweater knit. In addition, I found the sweater knit and french terry to hang longer than the other two types so definitely take that into consideration. I would even go so far as to say the cotton/lyrca and double brushed poly to fit more like a shirt than a tunic.

Terra Tunic fabric sources for the above images:

  • Knitpop:  gray striped rayon blend french terry
  • Hawthorne Threads: Stitched Anthomania by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery cotton/lycra
  • Sly Fox: Navy & rust boho double brushed poly
  • LDG Textiles: hacci slub sweater knit

How do you prefer to sew your buttons?

🧵machine

🪡 by hand

I prefer to sew with machine, but a little scotch tape makes it go even faster. The Juliet Top is today’s feature pattern (and it’s a cute match with our newest upcoming skirt pattern- keep an eye out for Caprice! (There are tiers, fun hemlines, buttons and more!)

I had THE most fun making these pattern, fabric, and notion bundles that will each be given away during next week’s 40% off sale.

Each one is totally different and meant for a specific category of sewing patterns: take a guess at each bundles’ title and which patterns coordinate with it!

Here’s a hint for the first one: it’s called “Athleisure Ready” and includes a digital version of 4 patterns, as well as:
A0 print of Constellation Pullover
2 sets of new Wonderclips
A new Fiskars rotary
“I’d rather be sewing” enamel pin
Coordinating thread
A custom LN iron-on patch (from Anjori!)
10 yards of *really* nice fabric: athletic rib knit, periwinkle baby french terry, speckled BFT, magenta cotton spandex

I wonder who will get them?! Make sure to read tomorrow’s Feature Friday newsletter for more info on how you can get one sent to you. 🙂

Want to start your weekend with a new free pattern? (And help us combat the algo and spread the word about the upcoming sale for this small business?)

comment on this post with a guess at each bundles’ title and accompanying patterns! I’ll pick a winner tomorrow 🙂

Where to buy knit fabrics

Click here to read about my go-to fabric sources.

My testers did such a great job sewing up their Terra Tunics. They had so much fun finding just the right fabric and sewing up different views. I only require my testers to sew up one test but I think every one of them did several! You know you’ve got something good when the testers are excited about it. Check out a few of them below.

Thanks ladies!!

Don’t forget to grab your copy while it’s still on sale.
