Riley Blake contacted me about being in their Knit blog tour a few weeks ago and I jumped at the chance. I admit, I’m somewhat of a knit fabric connoisseur. I’ve been sewing with knits for over 10 years and have come across some awesome fabrics as well as some duds. I’m happy to say that the Riley Blake knits definitely fall into the awesome category.

Bright, vibrant colors, great stretch and recovery and a lovely weight. Perfect for tunics and leggings!

I knew I had to come up with something truly fantastic to feature the lovely knits I was sent. Oh, and did I mention? The knits I was sent are from Patty Young! She’s awesome, her patterns are awesome and finally, her prints are awesome.

So, I got to work on a new pattern. My pattern style is modern, comfortable and fun! With those goals in mind, the pattern I came up with is the Miss Mary Mack Tunic. The ideal pattern to mix and match prints with! Another thing I love about the Patty Young knits- they’re so easy to mix! Even if you don’t have an eye for that sort of thing, you can easily put together the perfect tunic using these fabrics.

The Miss Mary Mack Tunic comes in sizes 12 months through girls 14. It’s a generous fit through the chest for supreme comfort and pairs perfectly with leggings (don’t forget to check out the free Leggin’s pattern while you’re shopping!). My initial vision for the tunic featured a slightly curved bodice. Through testing, the curve became more pronounced which is such a sweet look. To give the tunic a little bit more grown up feel for those tweens out there I added a straight bodice as well. Mix and match the bodice style with four sleeve styles. I can’t decide which is my favorite: flutter, gathered cap, regular cap or long sleeve. I love how this tunic will easily take you from winter through summer!

So excited for a tunic that works for older girls. My 9 & 10 year old GD”s will love this! Love those fabrics, too – got to get my hands on some of those!

  • The girls are so cute and you can tell they love modeling their new cloths….Ty for sharing ………love the color matching….

what fun these dresses are. And I even think that a lucky girl who plays all day in them might even be able to fall asleep in them they look so comfortable.

I haven’t seen much with knits (just some baby gowns) and I like the way this looks a lot. I checked out the pattern but don’t see anything about what kind of stitch capability is needed. Can I make this with a zig zag or do I need to be able to use a double needle? Thanks!

      Hi Jamie,
A serger isn’t needed. This pattern can be sewn with a sewing machine using a straight stitch in most areas of construction. Around the neckline you would want to use a stretch stitch. Let me know if you need any further help! 🙂

  • I have these fabrics in my shop. Love the knitss and want to carry more of them. Where can I get this pattern? Through my Riley Blake rep? She will be visiting me after spring market.
